The Framing
(Scaping)
In framing
of a silhouette, two major scaping are recognized. The portrait and the
landscape.
The number
of objects and theme is a dominant factor in deciding what frame to use.
A dominant
factor in deciding what frame to use. In framing a silhouette you need to be
careful about details (both emerging and fixed details) especially when
something creeps into the background. If I have portraiture of a single person,
it is believed that I should go for the portrait scape. In a way it is right
but to a professional, well-groomed, it is a 50 to 50 take.
The portrait
scaping of silhouettes
the emphasis is on the solid color of the
person and outline details but not necessarily the background. The background
on the contrary is for lighting and less of details maybe patches especially
when doing sunset silhouettes. In portrait scaping, another dimension that
breaks the rule is the HB portrait scaping. This means that equal attention is
focused on the object and background.
For example,
try going to the beach with two lovers, when its evening and the sunset is out,
do portraiture of the couples. But in this case, do the detailing of the sky
alongsides.
You should
find it revealing and interesting.
The
Landscape Silhouettes
The emphasis
is laid more on the details coming from the background.
Objects, the
main object and the rare object i.e background is important to the shoot.
In landscape
placement, every detail is equally important. Therefore landscape also has to
do with many objects being involved. You might have more than one object within
the frame of your landscape. I fyour theme does not have to do with action ,
you might maintain a close-up at any millimeter of your choice. But if action
is involved you might have to do more of wide-angle shots with maximum being at
18mm depending on your distance from the object.
Artistic
Impressions (for award winners)
Patterns and
style is what differentiates the men from the boys. It is what shows the
numbers of psycho-neural activity going on in the mind of the photographer.
What news has he discovered in the lighting?
What effect
does it create?
Personally
at this stage, the expression of the photographer is brought to limelight.
Everybody can shoot a silhouette perfectly; but what can you create with a
silhouette. The silhouette as regards artistic impression may involve light
patterns. At a time, I really want to add that shooting at a slow shutter speed
could help when engaging in artistic impressions only if the right tactics are
implored.
